VIJAYAWADA: Surya Charishma Tamiri knocked out top seed Unnati Hooda 21-12, 21-15 in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the senior National badminton championship at the Chennupati Ramakotaiah Indoor Stadium on Friday.
Charishma, who turned 19 last month, dominated 18-year-old Unnati in the 36-minute clash. Unnati, who won the Odisha Masters BWF Super-100 title earlier this month, failed to put up a fight.

The Vijayawada girl, who practises at this venue, was happy with her performance. “I am excited to beat a player like Unnati. She is a top ranked player and had recently defeated Sindhu in July,” Charishma told TOI.
She will face 18-year-old Rakshitha Sree Santosh Ramraj, who beat Tanvi Sharma 16-21, 21-14, 21-18. In men’s singles, top seed Kiran George worked hard to beat 11th seed Rounak Chauhan 21-18, 21-18. In the semifinals, he will face Rithvik Sanjeevi.
